Amid House uproar, male MPs of Congress, BJP urge rethink

NEW DELHI: The RJD-SP eruption against womens reservation has brought closet opponents of quota in the open, with male MPs of Congress and BJP using the disruption to counsel the government to rethink its move.
The pro-quota leaderships decision has left an overwhelming number of male members worried about their future and has firmly ranged them against the bill. Tied by party diktats and whips, they have been speaking under their breath and fervently hoping that the opponents manage to scuttle the bill as they have done in the past.

PM to meet Lalu, Mulayam, Sharad Yadav today |

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav on Tuesday morning over the Womens Reservation Bill, which was blocked in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
"The PM will meet Lalu Prasad, Mulayam Singh and Sharad Yadav at 9.30 am on Tuesday, before parliament starts the days business," Congress party sources said.
However, party sources said there is no time frame for the all-party meeting, which was proposed earlier.
The Congress Core Committee, which also met here, however, is yet to come out with a clear statement whether the bill will be passed after a discussion in the Rajya Sabha or not. |
